Mardagayl

“She Wolf” by Sara Riches.

MARDAGAYL

(Armenian “werewolf”)

in Armenian mythology human (mostly female) cursed to transform into a ➚ wolf (see also WEREWOLF-I, II and VILKTAKAS). When a god wanted to punish a woman, he forced her to taste a wolf food hailing from the sky and threw a wolf fur at her. This made the woman transform into a wolf every night for the next seven years. After the time passed, the fur disappeared into the sky and the woman returned to her normal shape.

There is an astral myth (degraded to the etiological legend) related to mardagayls. Once a mardagayl-woman attempted to devour her guest, who pierced her breast with a dagger while defending. Milk that spurted from the wound formed into Milky Way.
