BERGELMIR (old ice. Bergelmir “Bear Yeller”)

in Germanic (Scandinavian) mythology ➚ Hrimthurs, son of Thrudgelmir (Thrúdhgelmir “Strength Yeller”) and grandson of ➚ Ymir. Together with his wife (of unknown name) he managed to escape the flood of Ymir’s blood using the flour ark (lúdhr, lit. “hollowed wood”; probably kenning for “boat, ship”). The giant couple found shelter at the end of the Earth, where they gave birth to the ➚ Jötnar [1].
